Releasing on the 9th of June, Raabta, stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon as a couple who experience a rollercoaster of love, intrigue, entertainment and life (twice over!). With the release of the trailer, the movie certainly went high on many a fans lists of ‘movies I want to see’.

After the success of the movie’s first song ‘Ik Vaari Aa’ fans were eagerly awaiting to be wowed again. And the makers of Raabta did not disappoint. The amazing ‘Raabta Title Song’ has over 14 million views on Youtube alone. Composed by Pritam, the ballad that transposes into a cool and unique dance vibe is sung by Nikita Gandhi and features Deepika Padukone in a special appearance.

Recently Pritam took to Facebook to talk about the song, the singers and of course Deepika.

He begins by explaining how this version of ‘Raabta’ came to be, “Initially I was reluctant about the idea of recreating Raabta as the title track of the film. But we had the same team as we had in Agent Vinod. We had Dinoo (Dinesh Vijan) who was the producer of the film, Amitabh who had penned the song and even T-Series who had released that album.”

“We had already done 3 versions of the song in Agent Vinod (out of which one of the versions had three vocal options and one lyrical option :)). Not another one I thought to myself!”

He then goes on to reveal, “Let me share a secret here. It was Deepika who insisted that we rework the ‘Raabta’ song.”

“Dinoo loved the idea! He felt ‘Raabta’ in Agent Vinod had no proper video and it made sense to rework it! And next I knew that we were at the drawing board and I made a new mukhda leading to the old hook.”

One of the coolest things is he gives insight into the unique flavor of the track, “Dinoo wanted the new track to be loungy and sweet yet danceable. In a brainstorming session to achieve a sound, which Dinoo wanted, my technical team suggested Tropical House as the genre for the arrangement of the track. The tempo of the song and the kind of brief that Dinoo had given me was fitting this genre perfectly …… For those who have no idea about tropical house, it’s a sub-genre of Deep House mixed with Reggae and dance hall primarily uses softer synth tones and mallet instruments like steel drums in the drop. Tropical House is the flavour of the season and has been extremely popular in the West with artists like Thomas Jack, Kygo, Motoma, Klingande, Viceroy making some incredible music in that genre. Rohan Chauhan has produced the tropical house groove and the drop with Johan Folke and Stevan adding their production. My all time associate DJ Phukan and Sunny MR have done the sound design. Shadab has mixed and mastered it. My team includes Ashwin, Himanshu, Aaroh, Tusshar, Bobby, Amit and Shubham.”

Pritam also praised the singers, yes singers with an ‘s’ and revealed that there is even more amazingness coming when the full track releases, “Please welcome Nikita Gandhi to your world. This is her first Bollywood song and with her is all of our favourite Arijit Singh. Though Arijit is not in this promo, the second half of the song completely belongs to him.”

The composer, of course gives a big shout out to Deepika Padukone, “A Big Big hug to the lovely Deepika Padukone! No wonder she’s one of the greatest we have today. Just one day of shoot and she burns the frame with her presence. Raabta picturised on her is sounding so much better than what I had imagined while working on the song.”

In closing he says, “You have shown lots of love to the ‘Raabta’ which I did in Agent Vinod. I am sure you will give lot of love to this one too. So here is the brand new ‘Raabta’ for you.”
