Raima Sen is full of praise for her new movie The Japanese Wife with its intriguing premise. “Rahul Bose is married to a Japanese girl who he hasn’t met and they keep in touch through letters,” she explains, “I’m a widow with an eight-year-old son who lives with Rahul. So, he’s married to a woman he hasn’t met but shares domesticity with a woman he isn’t married to. It’s a complicated, yet beautiful story.”
Rumour has it that the talented Rahul Bose has a potentially National Award winning role in the movie, playing the part of an old man. “It’s an outstanding film,” Rahul says, “It’s about two pen friends who befriended each other by sending letters, and believe they are married though they have never met. And the years pass by, and they grow old. I am not old in the whole movie; it’s only the second half where I grow old.”
Raima’s also looking forward to appearing with her sister Riya in the latest Rituparno Ghosh movie, Nauka Doobi. “In my next film by Rituparno, I play the modern, independent woman, while Riya is the village belle,” she confirms, “Though we don’t share a scene together, it’s quite a role reversal which people are going to love.”
