Marking a new era in Indian filmmaking and sure to win the hearts of cineastes globally, one of India’s most lauded filmmakers,Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, presents his latest cinematic masterpiece, Mirzya, releasing worldwide on 7th October, produced by Cinestaan Film Company and ROMP Pictures.
Mirzya is helmed by the visionary filmmaker and auteur that is Omprakash Mehra, whose accomplished body of work includes critically hailed sports biopic,Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and celebrated Indian drama, Rang De Basanti – BAFTA-nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and India’s official selection for entry to the Academy Awards.
Mirzya embodies new age Indian cinema at its finest, introducing a new generation of acting talent in principals, Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher, alongside Anuj Choudhry, all of whom make sweeping screen debuts in this compelling love story, conveyed in the director’s inimitable style. Supporting them onscreen is Anjali Patil and a seasoned ensemble of internationally renowned veterans comprising Art Malik, Om Puri and K.K. Rana.
Combining the crème of artistic talent from India with international counterparts to create a film that is truly global in tone and aesthetic, Mirzya has been written by Academy and Grammy award-winning poet and lyricist, Gulzar. The film has been edited vividly by P. S. Bharathi Mehra, while the greatest Indian musical trio of contemporary times, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, has crafted a richly atmospheric soundtrack to further heighten the breathtaking mise-en-scene. Internationally, Polish DOP, Pawel Dyllus, has exquisitely shot the film, featuring action sequences directed by Danny Baldwin (The Last Samurai) and special effects courtesy of Prana (Life of Pi, Transformers, Thor). The film unfolds through heightened drama and state-of-the-art action sequences against the visually arresting terrain of Rajasthan, juxtaposed with flashes of the fantastical universe of the folklore dimension amid the mountainous landscape of Ladakh.
Synopsis:
Mirzya is an epic love story that plays out in contemporary times, inspired by the folk tale of The legend of Mirza-Sahiban, a tragic love story that finds resonance in other odes, Romeo and Juliet and Laila Majnu.
A timeless narrative about star-crossed lovers is played out in parallel worlds, one real and one fantastical. As the lovers struggle against the forces that seek to keep them apart in both avatars, they discover that just one moment of pure, true love is worth an entire lifetime.
