From creating fictional stories to keep audiences enthralled, scriptwriters and filmmakers are increasingly turning to real life heroes and pathbreakers to make movies upon. 2016 sees a plethora of movies that are based on real world people who have shaken the world with their remarkable achievements from humble beginnings. And why not, the world is filled with inspirational stories of actual incredible human beings who have done the unthinkable!

1. Mira Nair’s Queen of Katwe
Disney’s “Queen of Katwe” is based on the vibrant true story of Phiona Mutesi, a young girl from the streets of Kampala, Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess by soccer coach and former missionary Robert Katende, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an International chess champion. Directed by Mira Nair from a screenplay by William Wheeler, “Queen of Katwe”, the film stars nominee David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong’o and newcomer Madina Nalwanga. The film is all set to release on 7th October.

2. Sully
Sully is an American biographical drama film directed and produced by Clint Eastwood, co-produced by Frank Marshall, Time Moore and Allyn Stewart, written by Todd Komarnicki, and based on the autobiography ‘Highest Duty’ by Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow. The film stars Tom Hanks as Sullenberger.The movie has garnered an amazing response from the people all over the world.

3. Dhoni
A film on India’s most successful cricket captain is already a winner at the box office. The very talented Sushant Singh Rajput is all set to play Mahendra Singh Dhoni while Kiara Advani is all set to play his wife Sakshi Dhoni. Notable cricketers like Yuvraj Singh & Harbhajan Singh are also touted to do cameo appearances in the film. Hope Sushant Rajput hits the box office for a ‘helicopter shot’!

4. Anna
The true story of the man of truth KISAN BABURAO HAZARE including all true events. This biopic includes the events and character that influenced Kisan, a struggling village boy with his own thoughts and questions of the purpose of life. Kisan finds the answers and purpose of his life through several events and influential characters in his life. Kisan started his Journey from service to Indian Army as Driver and then finds his only selfless and inclusive purpose of working for People of village by inspiring them to stand for ourselves using the weapon of Anashan and Shramdan. And Thus we get to know the Real Anna, fighting for the people of country against corruption at Ramlila Maidan, Delhi. The whole story, from Kisan to Anna is told to us through each Ideals and Psyche of Anna presenting at what so called the second battle of Independence. This story of struggle, truth, and battle inspires us to create more Anna in today’s times. This is the honest attempt to create the Inspiration through this film with the big heart.The movie is all set to release on 14th, October.

5. Airlift
Based on a real life story of Kuwait based-Indian origin RanjitKatyal and the Iraq invasion on Kuwait by Saddam Hussein. This is when an Indian business settled in Kuwait arranged for the biggest civil evacuation for Indians with the help of the Indian government and rescued a record number of Indians during the Iraq – Kuwait war. Akshay Kumar and Nimratkaur in lead roles.

6. Neerja
Not many are aware of the slain flight attendant Neerja Bhanot who risked her own life to save American citizens when the plane was hijacked by terrorists in Karachi. Fashion icon Sonam Kapoor plays the titular role

7. Aligarh
A film on homosexual professor Dr Srinivas Ramachandra Siras who was sacked from his job because of his sexual orientation. The very talented Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar in lead roles. The film was a huge hit in festival circuits.

8. Dangal
Dangal is surely one of the most-hyped Aamir Khan movies. It tells the story of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat who taught wrestling to his daughters. The film has Aamir Khan playing the part of wrestler Mahavir while TV actress Sakshi Tanwar will be seen playing his wife.

9. Untitled Rani Laxmi Bai biopic
Ketan Mehta, the director of Mangal Pandey, will direct this film and has confirmed in an interview that talent powerhouse Kangana Ranaut will essay the title role in this film.

10. Eddie The Eagle
Eddie the Eagle is a 2016 British biographical sports comedy-drama film directed by Dexter Fletcher. The film stars Taron Egerton as Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards, a British skier who in 1988 became the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping. Hugh Jackman, Christopher Walken, Iris Berben and Jim Broadbent also star. The film had its world premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2016
