Saregama India Ltd launched the debut album of Band Called Nine – Rewind: Nine Lost Memories – at Blue Frog, Mumbai on Sunday 5th June. Known music director Vishal Dadlani was present at the launch which was followed by a live performance.
Band Called Nine is India’s first writer-led band and boasts of artists like Shilpa Rao and Neelesh Misra. According to their official website, the band and its writing captures the aspirations of small towns, dreams of the metropolis, the changing face of the new India and the values of the old. Known for singing Bollywood hits written by the band members, their album Rewind deals with a non-film genre – a storytelling meets song concept. Each song has a small intro, given by Neelesh and rendered by lead vocalist Shilpa Rao. Neelesh is also the creative director and lyricist while the music composer is Amartya Rahut. Happy that the audience gathered loved the live performance of the songs from the album Neelesh said, “It was overwhelming to see such a great response and it was very interesting that the album was launched at Blue Frog which is a hub for musicians. Rewind is set against the theme of Nostalgia, it’s a love story based in small town and many people will find relevance with their own lives because it includes elements like romance, small town, leaving behind home and aspirations of moving to a big city, which are very universal.”
The band is going to follow this up with more live performances with the next being in New Delhi on 15th June.
