Kal Ho Na Ho (2003)
Although a love story with a somewhat unexpected ending, Kal Ho Na Ho quite simply ticked all the right boxes. As with previous films produced under Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the story evoked emotion in almost every part of the movie. The romance of the film very much relied on the comical scenes and this not only proved to be refreshing but also innovative.

Shah Rukh Khan’s endearing performance as Aman, a character who suffers from a rare heart condition, won the audience’s hearts. Preity Zinta’s geeky appearance and her performance as Naina, arguably, gave the movie just the right amount of glamour. However, Saif Ali Khan’s portrayal of Rohit Patel is what made this movie’s comedy work. The romantic slapstick comedy between the characters, the dialogues which accompanied the touching scenes and the New York backdrop all contributed to the film’s overall status as the best romantic film of 2003.

In 2003, Baghban also gave the audiences a romance with a difference. Two Aishwarya starrers Dil Ka Rishta and Kuch Na Kaho were also popular with the masses.
