Vivaah (2006)
Rajshri films are very well known for their sweet family-oriented entertainment and perhaps the kinds of love stories that stand the test of time. Vivaah was no different to the Rajshri norm. Very much on par with previous movies of the banner such as Hum Aapke Hai Kaun and Hum Saath Saath Hain, Vivaah’s story was appreciated by the masses. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao in lead roles, the romance of the movie came along with the arranged-marriage scenario.
Given the tagline “A journey from engagement to marriage…” the movie sought to beautify the concept of a family introduction in an age when love marriages were perhaps less adhered to than before. The soundtrack of the film boasted many songs to accompany the journey of falling in love taken by the two characters. The movie also includes an idealistic view of a traditional Indian joint family. The absence of tele-communicative technology and modern courtship makes Vivaah all the more endearing in its times.
During 2006, Kajol made a come-back in Fanaa co-starring Aamir Khan and Dharma Productions Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna revealed the dark sides of extra-marital affairs.
