The Bengali masterpiece Saat Pake Badha (English Title “The Marriage Vows”) directed by National Award winner Ajoy Kar and produced by R.D.Bansal, was officially selected in the Out-of-Competition Program of the 48th Moscow International Film Festival.

This was a very special screening because it marked the return of the film to the Moscow Festival where it had won its female lead, Suchitra Sen, the Best Actress Award in the year of the film’s release in 1963. This was the first international award to be won by any actress in India.

Saat Pake Badha, also starring Soumitra Chatterjee, was a box office success upon its release and went on to be remade in Tamil, Telegu and in Hindi as the much-acclaimed Kora Kagaz with Jaya Bhaduri(Bachchan) in Suchitra Sen’s role.

The film, now more than sixty years old, has been restored in 4k resolution from a 35mm release print. A DCP made from this restored version was screened thrice during the Moscow festival on April 16th.
