The first edition of the South Africa Indian Film and Television Awards (SAIFTA) took place on Friday in Durban and witnessed all the Bollywood biggies as well as the infamous television troop out there. Reportedly, about 150 Indian film and TV personalities along with 30 South African film and TV fraternity were present for the award function and applauded by a live audience of 7000 people.
The award function commenced with a special Madiba award to South Africa’s former president Nelson Mandela. The award was received by his granddaughter Ndileka Mandela at the event.
SOTY debutant Siddharth Malhotra performed to songs from his film. Ranveer Singh also hit the dance floor to a fusion of songs. Stealing the show were Priyanka Chopra and Madhuri Dixit. Priyanka performed on ‘Deva Shree Ganesha’, while Madhuri danced to songs from her films which included her latest hit ‘Ghaghra’.
Manish Paul, who is making his debut in films with Mickey Virus, shared the promo of the film along with his co-star Elli Avram and also hosted a segment of the award function. However, no one can entertain like our very own Karan Johar who was accompanied by the diva Dia Mirza.

Actor of the year – Male: Ranbir Kapoor for Barfi!
Actor of the year – Female: Priyanka Chopra for Barfi!
Supporting Actor of the year – Male: Nawazuddin Siddiqui for Gangs of Wasseypur
Supporting Actor of the year – Female: Divya Dutta for Special 26 and Rani Mukherjee for Talaash
Debut Actor of the year – Male: Siddharth Malhotra for Student of the Year
Debut Actor of the year – Female: Huma Qureshi for Gangs of Wasseypur
Popular Song of the Year: ‘Tum Hi Ho’ from Aashiqui 2
Best Youth Icon: South Africa: John Abraham
Coming to the TV side, personalities like Mona Singh, Ravi Dubey and Sargun Mehta, Shilpa and Apurva Agnihotri were present at the event. The infamous TV show Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV bagged the award for the Show of the Year. Gurmeet Choudhary won the lead actor of the year while Kratika Sengar won the female lead for Punar Vivaah.
The South African Film and TV industry were also awarded at the event. The awards for TV actors of the year were bagged by Robert Whitehead for Isidingo and Baby Cele for Zabalaza. The TV show of the year was given to De Laan.
