Last year’s Salaam-e-Ishq, directed by Nikhil Advani, was a film with many different stories woven into one. Each of the six stories had an all star cast including Salman Khan opposite Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla, Akshaye Khanna with Ayesha Takia, John Abraham paired with Vidya Balan, Govinda and newcomer Shannon Esra, and Sohail Khan married to Isha Koppikar. With that cast you would think the film would do very well but sadly it did not.
One reason it did not set the box office on fire may have been because it did have to many stories, so now the director has decided to split them up. Eros Entertainment is going to release a theatrical cut of the film on DVD and each of the stories will be seen as an individual movie.
Advani said, “Going by the track record for films with different sub-plots including mine, we can assume audiences will like to see one plot within one feature. So many people have told me they’d have liked to see Salaam-e-Ishq as six different films.”
“Those who liked the John-Vidya track can watch that and skip the others. Even while I was writing the film, I knew that somewhere down the line, I’d bring out six plots from my film,” he added.
About why his film did not work Advani said, “I do wonder where I went wrong! The one track that I could improve – the Salman-Priyanka one – I think I went wrong with that.”
After shooting several commercials, Advani is now on to his next project Chandni Chowk To China starring Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone.
