Karan Johar’s decision to remake his father Yash Johar’s production Agneepath was, as he stated at the Dubai International Film Festival, a purely emotional one. “I want to make this film again in memory of my father and I will make sure I get it right commercially,” Karan said, adding that Agneepath was a film his father was most proud of and that Yash Johar was completely broken when it failed at the box office. So now it’s Karan’s big dream to get at least the remake a ‘hit’ tag.

As of now, Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra are finalized for the leading roles while Sanjay Dutt will play the villain corresponding to Danny Denzongpa’s Kancha Cheena in the original film. “All of us at Dharma Productions are extremely excited to work with Sanju. He is a close family friend and one of the nicest guys I know”, confirmed Karan. “He is absolutely the best actor today to play Kancha Cheena.” Sanju is no less thrilled than Karan about being part of this production. Though he cannot agree with shaving his head bald for this role as he will also shoot for other productions at the same time, he is open for every possible variant: “We’ll be doing prosthetics for the look of my Kancha Cheena. A team of specialists from Los Angeles will be coming to finalise how the looks of my character should evolve as the story progresses,” Sanju states.

Karan Johar and director Karan Malhotra don’t intend to make a scene-by-scene remake. “We will never match the brilliance of Mukul Anand, we will never ever match the brilliance of Mr.Bachchan. We cannot compare to that kind of a genius combination,” admits Johar. Thus, many changes are made in the new script which include even the character of Kancha Cheena which Danny Denzongpa portrayed as a sophisticated villain while Sanju’s villain might turn out to become quite a contrast: “My character is a lot more grounded and rural. At the same time he’s very rough and tough. It’s too early to reveal anything more, but Karan’s (director Karan Malhotra) characterisation is interesting,” asserts Sanju.

So right now, everything seems on the right track for Sanju. He enjoys shooting for his home production Rascals for which he, Ajay Devgn and Kangna Ranaut only recently shot a snazzy club song written by Vishal-Shekhar and choreographed by Bosco-Caesar. And even more he enjoys being father of his now two months old twins. “Fatherhood can’t be expressed in mere words. I wish to continue working and make people happy with my entertaining movies. And I hope my case gets over now,” says Sanju. We wish him all the best.
