Anurag Kashyap found an innovative way to promote his upcoming movie Shaitan. Directed by Bijoy Nambiar, the movie has an important sequence in which the actors dress up in a burkha and walk along the Mohammad Ali road. Keeping this in mind, Anurag Kashyap had the actors dress up in a burkha and turn up at the event. Along with Anurag Kashyap, Kalki Koechlin, Rajeev Khandelwal, Shiv Pandit, Kirti Kulhari and the rest of the cast was present.
Interacting with the press, Anurag admitted that the movie had indeed been rejected by almost everyone before he decided to produce it. In fact, having seen Bijoy’s earlier works he had recommended Kalki to him but seeing that the project wasn’t taking off, he decided to get onboard as a producer. Refusing to comment on the recent Bijoy controversy, Anurag said that the producers of the movie were Viacom 18 so there was no reason to worry about the money used in the production. Talking about the difficulty in the shooting of the movie, Kalki said that there were many tough scenes in the film and the actors had given their best to each and every shot. In fact Kirti, who had to shoot a scene where she is slapped hard almost cried out because of the physical pain. Even then though she didn’t stop shooting. This is her second film after the comedy Khichdi and from playing a dumb Punjabi Kudi in this movie to playing a middle-class aspiring model Tanya in Shaitan; she has managed to portray different shades. On the other hand, Kalki plays an NRI who is the most sensitive and fragile of the lot and who becomes happy after finally being accepted in a group. In fact her performance is being highly appreciated.
The new batch of actors seemed pretty excited about the movie and was happy with the initial response to the selective screenings. Here’s hoping that the audience loves this movie as well when it releases this Friday.
