In spite of the abject failure of Alpha, Hindi and Telugu cinema are gearing up for the release of some highly anticipated female hero vehicles.
Bollywood is all set for EETHA with Shraddha Kapoor in the lead. In Shakti Shalini, Aneet Padda of Saiyaara plays a superhero.
In Telugu, Mysaa, starring Rashmika Mandanna, is the most highly anticipated upcoming female-led action thriller in Telugu cinema. Directed by Rawindra Pulle, the pan-India project is scheduled to release in October 2026.
Telugu cinema is witnessing a massive surge in gritty, action-heavy, and high-concept female hero projects. Milestone movies like Samantha’s action-comedy Maa Inti Bangaaram (June 2026), Tamannaah Bhatia’s supernatural thriller Odela 2 (April 2025), and Anupama Parameswaran’s social drama Parada (August 2025) recently concluded their highly successful theatrical runs.
Upcoming Shero ventures include the M.S. Subbalakshmi biopic, starring Sai Pallavi in the titular role, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. It will trace the life of the legendary classical singer.
National Award winner Keerthy Suresh has signed a strong woman-centric script co-starring actor Suhas.
Then there is Mirai: Jaithraya. While the first fantasy-action film focused on Teja Sajja, a direct spin-off centered heavily around the female warriors guarding ancient scriptures is currently in active development.
