Imtiaz Ali’s next offering Rockstar is scheduled for release in July 2011. Now that you have marked that up in your diaries let me provide the essentials.
With Eros International Media Ltd, the Indian Media & Entertainment Company and Shri Ashtavinayak Cine Vision jointly producing the film, the film was originally scheduled for a December 2010 release – however was postponed due to production issues. Rockstar sees Ranbir Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali working together for the first time. This also sees American model Nargis Fakri making her acting debut, Ali and Rahman work together for the first time and so do A. R. Rahman, Neeraj Shridhar and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. That is a lot of firsts.
With music being provided by A. R. Rahman and lyrics by Irshad Kamil of Jab we Met and Love Aaj Kal Fame the audio rights have already been snapped up by T-Series. A wise move I say based on track record.
According to Rahman, “Rockstar is a character driven film and as one can guess from the title, there will be lots of guitar.”
To say that Ali has high expectations to meet would be an understatement. After the mega success of two of his three films, this is easily one of the most awaited films of 2011. If this is a hit, Ali gets his hat trick so to speak. No pressure… of course.
