When it rains, it pours! Priyanka Chopra definitely believes this as this week not only brought her rave reviews for her role in Barfi! but it also marked the inaugural of her first international single. Looking ravishing albeit a bit nervous in a Falguni and Shane Peacock leather dress, PC launched her single ‘In My City’ at Juhu, Mumbai yesterday a good 6 hours before it premiered at the NFLN (National Football League Network) as its theme song.
PC’s journey to this single is pretty interesting too. After Salim-Suleiman heard her sing during Pyaar Impossible, they recommended her to Devraj Sanyal (Universal Music, India). Anjula (DesiHits) then got a team together of A-list music producers like Jimmy Iovine of Interscope, Red One of 2101, and the talent manger Troy Carter of Atom Factor. With a struggle over two years with riyaaz and training her voice, ‘In My City’ with will.i.am (The Black Eyed Peas) finally happened. While the making video is out, the actual music video will be shot in LA soon – PC said that it would include a lot of Bollywood! – and the whole album will be out by 2013.
Priyanka seemed overwhelmed with the response to her single and although the audience would have loved to hear her sing, her sore throat prevented the same. However, with promotion activities definitely involving concerts, fans will soon be able to hear her sing live. Though the song is in English, it has a mix of Indian beats and PC being the Desi Girl has promised that the album will be full of surprises (hint: there will be a Hindi song! ) . “I never thought I would be a professional singer, also I never thought I would become an actor. If not this then I would be an engineer. I have never sung professionally. I never knew I would be doing it. I can’t believe this is my event and I am overwhelmed.” She said adding, “I grew up listening to music from my parents. My father used to listen to Mohammed Rafi and my mother used to listen to international music bands like Beatles and Metallic.” No wonder then, that her parents-especially her father – were seemed very happy with her decision to finally sing. We wish Priyanka the beast of luck!
‘In My City’ would be a key part of the upcoming multi-city Blender’s Pride Fashion Tour. The single priced at Rs. 75/- will be available in at least a 1000 outlets starting today.
