One of the films we have our Bolly-eye on is the the Imtiaz Ali directed romance – Love Aaj Kal starring Kartik Aaryan & Sara Ali Khan. Set to release this Valentine’s Day (14th February), Imtiaz Ali will share his take on love in the modern times with a dash of nostalgia.

Of course, Imitaz has visited Love Aaj Kal before in 2009 starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone however this is a new tale of Love Aaj Kal (Love nowadays).

What is really cool is that this Love Aaj Kal presents a contemporary and relatable portrayal of two stories set in different times, one set in Udaipur in the early 90s and the other in modern day Delhi, that interact to learn (or perhaps unlearn!) from each other the different facets of love, commitment and relationships.

The word ‘Love’ itself brings along with it a plethora of feelings and meanings, which has constantly changed over time.

While the expression of love has changed over the years gone by, does the emotion still remain the same? Has anybody figured out the perfect path towards love?

Love Aaj Kal is a movie that tackles this ever-changing dynamic of being in and finding love.

Our protagonists, Veer and Zoe traverse this tricky path of love while trying their luck in finding the answers to these questions.

Talking about the film Imtiaz, who is both the director and the producer, says, “Every time I look, the procedure of love and relationships seems to have undergone a complete overhaul. The parameters of physical intimacy change, the do’s and don’ts change but that which is precious, which people look for when they get with someone – that remains the same – generation after generation, decade after decade. I made Love Aaj Kal ten years back and now I am excited to take the franchise forward with a completely new story and characters. I’d like to thank Shibasish and his team at Reliance Entertainment as our banner Window Seat Films takes its first steps with the release of this film. With Dinoo Vijan, it’s like a homecoming for me. I have had a great time working with him in both these films. I would also like to thank Jio Studios for backing this film with their marketing & distribution.”

We also have to showcase the first song because it just it pure romance and well gives us a peek into this world of Love Aaj Kal!

Composed by the brilliant Pritam, and sung by the always emotive Arijit Singh, ‘Shayad’ brings out the innocence Of first love!

Sung in his soulful inimitable style by Arijit Singh, Shayad captures the tenderness of first love that resonates generation after generation despite differences in its expression. On one hand, we see the innocent small town romance of debutant Arushi Sharma (as Leena) and Kartik Aaryan (as Raghu), the high school sweethearts of the 90s in the picturesque town of Udaipur as they explore the excitement of first love complete with movie outings and school socials; on the other, one enjoys the easy understated chemistry of Sara and Kartik (as Zoe and Veer), the Gen Z couple in modern time Delhi as they go through similar emotions.

“For me, this song is a trip down memory lane,” said Imtiaz. “I remember when Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak had just released. The romances in my hometown, Jamshedpur, were heavily influenced by the soundtrack from that film. With Shayad, I’ve tried to recreate that atmosphere.” Talking about his process, Pritam said, ” Shayad speaks of the innocence of first love and how even over time that love remains precious and meaningful. I wanted to invoke the nostalgia of first love with the audience.” Irshad Kamil adds, “The innocence and charm of first love is that there is so much that remains unspoken yet it is fully understood. In Shayad, we have tried to capture that emotion.”
