With Ganesh Chaturti upon us once again, Punjabi actress Upasna Singh has been praising the god as she enjoys the release of My Friend Ganesh 2. How come? “I remember the day when my mother was very ill. The doctor warned me that she might die if I failed to take her to the hospital. But before doing that, I prayed to the god and my mother became well again even before we set off for the hospital.”

The film was released simultaneously on DVD as an experiment. It’s felt that animated films (or part-animated in the case of the Ganesh movies) will benefit from this strategy with every child wanting to have their own copy. For this reason, it is being sold at the bargain price of only 50 rupees.

Upasna is best known for her negative characters but would prefer this not to be the case. “I like comic characters the most,” she says. “Personally, I feel that I am really good with comedies. But at the same time I like to play emotional characters also.”

What films does she have lined up for us in the next few months? “There are Priyadarshan’s Chal Chala Chal, Sangit Sivan’s Ek, The Power of One, Dard-E-Disco and a Tips’ film To Baat Pakki. All the films except Ek, The Power of One are comedies,” she explains, “I am playing Govinda’s sister in Chal Chala Chal. I am among the stars like Tabu, Yuvika Chaudhary, Vatsal Seth, Sushant Singh and Sharad Saxena in To Baat Pakki.”

As well as My Friend Ganesha, Upasna has recently appeared in Mr. White Mr. Black, God Tussi Great Ho! and Hastey Hastey Follow Your Heart!, and a little earlier in Hulchul and Aitraaz.
