UTV has stuck a deal with several companies to make two of their new films accessible for download online. The media company is working together with Rajshri.com, BigFlicks.com and IndyaOnDemand to offer the films for download. Vikram Bhatt’s Fear is one of the movies and the other is Vishal Bhardwaj’s The Blue Umbrella, which released yesterday in theaters.

The reason UTV entered into this project is, “Our audiences overseas have lesser ease of access to our films as compared to audiences here in India. Using the Internet as a medium of distribution is the way forward for content owners to combat piracy, which is to have movies available for viewing legitimately online,” said Siddharth Roy Kapur, UTV Motion Pictures exec VP, marketing, distribution and syndication.

Instead of being able to rent the movies online for 72 hours, these two films are available for download-to-own. They are in two different formats; standard which is $9.99 and the high-resolution version priced at $19.99.

If, like this reporter, many films are not shown in your city, this is an excellent way to get your Bollywood fix and we applaud the company for offering them online.
