Farhan Akhtar has been for quite time now been associated with the social cause ‘Men Against Rape and Discrimination (MARD)’, an initiative designed to create awareness amongst men and to instill gender equality and respect towards women. He has been very vocal about it on social networking platforms and teaming up with the creative director of JWT and Atul Kasbekar of Bling, they brainstormed and channelized a platform for MARD. Many from the industry have known to support Farhan on this initiative and most recently, Yuvraj Singh joined hands with Farhan and Atul for a social cause. Javed Akhtar has penned down the MARD poem which is being translated in various languages. After Sachin Tendulkar recited the poem in Marathi, playback singer Shaan in Bengali and Mahesh Baabu in Telugu, this time, it is Yuvraj Singh who was more than willing to come on board to spread the message in Punjabi.
Farhan Akhtar and Atul Kasbekar have vowed to spread awareness about gender inequality and rape through various mediums and languages.
They feel that change in law and order cannot curb the increasing crime against women. An idea needs to be planted which will bring about a larger change. They want to reach out to as many people possible with this thought and believe that with the cultural diversity in India, the only way to do this would be to break through language barriers.
Yuvraj Singh says, “I am very glad to be associated with Mard. I think every person needs to do their bit.”
