Rishi Kapoor & Dimple Kapadia – A seminal jodi for ushering teenage love stories to a violent decade, Rishi and Dimple put a name to teenage hormones! Bobby (1973) was directed by Rishi’s father Raj Kapoor who decided to launch his son, as well as paying off his debts from his failure Mera Naam Joker (1970). Rishi and Dimple are excellent as the Romeo and Juliet lovers, who dare to defy their parents and fall in love. What makes this a wonderful film, is that the lead pair is so authentic in their portrayal of lovesick teenagers, instead of being wise beyond their years; they fall in love fast and navigate their lustful feelings for each other as well. Dimple and Rishi are wonderful in conveying their characters’ impetuous love for each other, especially in a scene where they have been reunited after being locked away from each other, instead of being overjoyed; they immediately embrace in a fierce hug and kiss each other. Bobby is a film that definitely debunks the chaste love of the 60’s, here is a couple that do love each other but it is their electric and earthy ties that hold them together.
