The steaming platform Zee5’s triumphant joy at streaming Honey Trehan’s hardhitting film, Satluj, on militancy in Punjab, proved shortlived.
The OTT platform now faces the looming possibility of legal action by the Government for streaming a film that was, in principle, banned by the Government as it had been restricted from public viewing by the Central Board Of Film Certification.
The government is considering amending the IT Rules 2021 for certification of films before release on OTT platforms, a development that comes amid a controversy over the film Satluj that was released without any clearances.
Sources say the Government is likely to introduce a compulsory certification and clearance from the Censor Board before any film is released on OTT platforms. The Government is also considering action against ZEE5 for screening Satluj, which was still under scrutiny by the CBFC.
The film was taken down from ZEE5 two days after its release on July 3, following a government order that cited national security concerns.
