Next comes ‘Gum Sum’…
I think Gum Sum, also sung by Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam, is another one of the “old school” flavor songs he was talking about. It is an upbeat song with some great music but really not a stand out for me. Being picky, there was a very odd percussion section near the end that really distracted me. The melody line does tend to go through your head, in fact right now I am singing “Gum Sum Gum Sum” to myself, but overall it was just an OK song for me.
That’s three we agree on! When you’re listening to this one it sounds nice but for some reason I’m always reluctant to go back to it when it shows up on my iPod. It’s not a bad song by any means, but I expect more from Rahman. Maybe it’s my fault for setting the bar so high when it comes to his songs, but that’s only because I know what an amazing composer he is. Not my favourite, but I don’t hate it either.
